7 26 14 EMCSA Update

WITHIN: Graded primarily on heat and narrative
WITHOUT: Graded primarily on narrative
Possible spoilers below …

Auditory Asphyxia! (mc mf ff md) (new)  by PaperWeight
–3/5 (decent, not perfect)–

Perhaps one of the more expressive writing styles I’ve seen here, but that’s perfectly fine. The imagination is stimulated :) I can’t say this particularly grabbed me — some of the writing structure could be reworked, but it wasn’t bad overall. Readable narrative with heat that just didn’t mesh.

Horse Head Mask (mc mf ff fd ex fu gr) (new)  by Nigel
–3/5 (decent, not perfect)–

I can’t say furry is ever a tag that grabs me, but it’s not a deal breaker! For someone that’s never gone to an exclusive Halloween party, I think some of the overall feel was a bit lost on me. Or maybe Halloween isn’t exactly tomorrow … Anyway, “weird” is perhaps the best way to ultimately describe this story. I guess that’s a good thing, considering its told from the perspective of someone rather drunk! Perhaps my only real complaint is that it felt like it was a little longer than it needed to be. I had mixed feelings about the layers of party. It added mystery, yes, but sometimes its best just to get on with it, avoiding what could be considered superfluous. Not quite the TFs I generally go for, but well detailed. Overall, interesting.

The Rise of Kaa! (mc mf md be) (new)  by PaperWeight
Rise of Kaa
~~2/5 (so-so, maybe a good story to others but didn’t mesmerize me)~~

The writing was fine, and readable in its own style. I don’t exactly have a snake fetish, so that aspect of the narrative was a bit lost on me. At least partly from that, this one just didn’t grab me. A snake entity hypnotizing people, at least in the way described, seemed a little too cheesy. Hypnotic spiral is a little overdone, I think. Interesting story hiding in there, but like I said, this one just didn’t grab me.
